Summary · Week 9

John 3:11–15 — The Son Lifted Up

The night conversation continues. Jesus confronts the teacher’s unbelief. We speak of what we know. You do not receive our testimony. No one has ascended into heaven except the Son of Man who descended. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. Whoever believes in him has eternal life. A look, not a ladder.

For reflection

  1. Who is He? The Son of Man who descended, and who must be lifted up.
  2. What did He come to do? To be lifted up, as the serpent was, that whoever believes may have eternal life.
  3. What does He offer? Eternal life. Whoever believes in him has it.
  4. How do you receive it? By believing. A look, as Israel looked at the serpent.
